July 2018 (Stamford) – Martin LLP hosted a special ‘friend-raiser’ reception to benefit Lifting Up Westchester. The Firm welcomed Anahaita Kotval (Executive Director) and Chris Schwartz (Director of Development) to their offices to discuss hunger and homelessness in the Westchester area and to outline the work their agency is doing to combat these problems.
“Our lawyers have assisted as pro bono corporate counsel to the organization, but we thought we could do more,” noted Martin LLP Partner Will Malpica, who coordinates many of the firm’s Pro Bono activities, “by introducing our clients and friends to this worthy cause, we hoped not only to expose the organization to potential new donors, volunteers and supporters, but also to help our friends identify meaningful ways to serve our communities.”
Anahaita Kotval, Executive Director of Lifting Up Westchester said, “Although we are best known for our emergency services, our focus it to create permanent solutions by providing men, women and children in need with the skills they need to become self-sufficient, productive members of our communities.”
Lifting Up Westchester (www.liftingupwestchester.org) is a 501 (c)(3) organization whose mission is to restore hope to Westchester County’s men, women and children in need by providing them with food, shelter and support- lifting them to greater self-sufficiency with dignity and respect. It is one of the largest social services agencies in Westchester County and has been fulfilling its mission since 1979 through the operation of eight community-based programs. The agency serves 3,500 men, women and children each year providing almost 100,000 meals to the hungry and 20,000 nights of shelter to the homeless.
Lifting Up Westchester’s services range from homeless shelters and a soup kitchen to providing supportive housing and free vocational training. The agency also provides extensive services for homeless children to motivate them to be the first in their families to receive a college education.
